Volta a Catalunya 2008

Volta a Catalunya 2008 is a seven day stage race held in the Catalan region of Spain.

Norway's Thor Hushovd, riding with Credit Agricole, won Monday's opening stage of the Tour of Catalonia, a 3.7km individual time trial at Lloret de Mar.

Hushovd finished in 4min 37sec to oust US rival George Hincapie by 6sec with Spanish hope Jose Ivan Gutierrez third fastest on the day while Spanish favourite Carlos Sastre struggled in the wet conditions.

Swiss time trial specialist Fabian Cancellara came in ninth 9sec off the pace.

Tuesday's second stage is a 167.8km ride from Riudellots de la Selva to Banyoles.
