49th Du Loir et Cher 2008

The Rapha Condor Recycling.co.uk team are undertaking three big French races over the next weeks. The next leg of their journey after The Circuit of the Ardennes has taken them to the 49éme Tour Du Loir et Cher 2008.

The Rapha Condor Recycling.co.uk team for the 49th Du Loir et Cher is Dean Downing, Kristian House, Rob Partridge, Graham Briggs, Simon Holt and Matt Rowe.

Stage 4 : Villebarou to Billy (192k)
Rapha Condor Recycling.co.uk lost out a little on the GC on stage four due to some bizare tactics by the race leaders team (Jos Pronk of the Krolstone Continental Team).

It was another fast stage which saw numerous breaks form in the early part of the race with Team GLS (Team GLS Pakke Shop) showing how strong they really are, always represented well with most of there team always in the breaks, Rapha Condor Recycling.co.uk had some close shaves early on, at one point having to put the whole team on the front to bring back a large group when the team completly missed out.

Full credit to Simon Holt who rode very strongly for the team all day, getting dropped and then returning to the peleton only to have hear Team Manager John Herity say "we need you at the front again Simon" !

Eventually a break formed which should of been brought back by the Krolstone Continental Team. They had placed a man in the break, but had the rest of the team riding flat out behind to bring it back, they called on the Legia team from Poland to help them out and at one point had it back down to 50secs, but they eased of allowing the break to increase it's lead back up to 1.30.

At this point the Krolstone Continental Team manager asked Rapha Condor Recycling.co.uk to help as the team were also loosing out a little, but this was declined by John Herity, "saying you can't have it all, if you want the GC you need to bring back your own rider who is sat on the break to assist the yellow jersey." They might justify their tactics by the fact that they won the stage whilst surrendering the yellow to GLS.

Rapha Condor Recycling.co.uk lost a couple of placings on the GC but have now secured the KOM before the last day which means Kristian Downs can concentrate on trying to win the stage and improve his GC posistion. Graham Briggs will be trying to do the same, targeting the time bonus sprint at 41 km and of course the bonus seconds on offer at the finish.

The next stage covers 13 laps of a 7.5km circuit in the centre of Blois. Normally a formality for the race leaders team, but with times very close at the top end of the GC and the prospect of rain in the air we could still see some upsets yet.
