Emma Davies wins GP Evergem

On Saturday afternoon, Emma Davies Jones took the first major road victory of the season for Swift Racing. Against strong competition, including newly crowned world champion Jo Rowsell, Emma took it upon herself to attack on the first of 13 laps.

Joined by Australian Leonie Burford, the pair quickly moved 40 seconds clear of the bunch. With Swift Racing working hard to control the bunch, the move never looked like being captured.

Under clear sky’s for the complete race (Which hasn’t been too common in Belgium of late), the pair moved to over a minute clear of the bunch and it was only going to be down the sprint. Emma Davies Jones, using her vast experience, turned the final corner on Leonie’s wheel and eased passed as the approached the line.

Behind, the team tried to set themselves up for the final podium position, however Toni Bradshaw was caught on the line.

It was a great day for the team. Emma Davies Jones was quick to thank her team on the podium and hopes to be able to return the favour on Sunday when the team travel the Incourt in the south of Belgium for a 100km hilly classic.
