La Vuelta ciclista al Pais Vasco 2008

Stage six of the Tour of the Basque Country was a time trial held from Orio via Aia and back to Orio, (20 Kms) on April 12.

Alberto Contador, who’s grandmother died during this race, was more than happy with his sixth victory in a stage race. “It was so hard. Nobody knew it but I slept so poorly this week, also because of dental problems. On Thursday, we had to look for a dentist after the race. Yesterday, I felt so bad but I could hide it from the other riders. This victory is so important as I could show that I am as good or even better than the other big tour favorites or the favorites for the Ardennes classics. Thank you Basque public. You cheered me to the victory.”

In the GC, Cadel Evans (Silence Lotto) moved up to second spot jumping over many, many riders on the lumpy final time trial.
