La Vuelta ciclista al Pais Vasco 2008

The La Vuelta ciclista al País Vasco 2008, (Tour of the Basque Country) is held in the fiercely independent Basque area of Northern Spain from April 7 to 12.

Iban Maioz (Karpin) and Igor Martinez (Euskadi) led for many kilometres on stage one of the Tour of the Basque on April 7. The two were caught with 14 kilomtres to go on the road from Legazpi and back (137 Kms).

Once the pair were caught on the final climb of the day, Egor Mosquera (Karpin) attacked and soon had a lead, he was chased down by Alberto Contador (Astana) whilst Damiano Cunego (Lampre) chased in between.

Contador went clear of Mosquera to win as David Herrero (Karpin) led in the chase group. Cadel Evans finished 15th at 8 seconds down, his Silence Lotto team in conjunction with Astana had done much of the work to bring back the lead two and catch them short of the line.
