The second edition of the Monte Paschi Eroica was played out on the 'White Roads' or dirt tracks of Tuscany on March 8.

Fabian Cancellera (Team CSC) and Alessandro Ballan (Lampre) had moved away from the rest to contest the finish together.

World Champion Paulo Bettini (Quickstep) made the start and was waved off by Mario Cippolini. Sadly for Bettini he placed almost last.
