Tour of Flanders

Alessandro Ballan attacks on the Muur 2007
The 'Ronde van Vlaanderen' features a litany of infamous climbs, many of which are cobbled, narrow and very steep. Climbs such as the Oude Kwaremont, the Kopenberg.

The Muur and Bosberg stand out for their fierceness, and offer pain and grief to the riders. These climbs and the route snakes through Belgium Flanders attracting massive crowds and on this day the more experienced fans will be able to catch the action at many vantage points.

The seemingly never ending short sharp ascents will see the stronger men at the front and as they approach the 'Muur' the surviving domestiques will peel off, their days work done and let the potential winners go work to gain position on this famous climb.

The 'Muur' begins and climbs through the town of Du Grammont until it reaches the final very steep cobbled section - it is at this point and in front of throng of spectators the winning attack will be launched. In 2007 Alessandro Ballan went away with Leif Hoste, (Three top three's in the previous four years) poweing past the church that marks the top before heading onto the long cobbled drag that is the Bosberg and where a break is cast in concrete.
