Giro stage 18 won by Alessandro Petacchi 07

On the 18th stage of the Giro Alessandro Petacchi (Milram) took his fourth stage victory. A fast and frantic final few hundred metres resulted in a crash on one tricky corner, shaking things up considerably.

“It was a very long and a very hard sprint. First I was jammed, but I could free myself. I think, today I won at this turn,” said Petacchi, sitting at the barriers exhaustedly. “Many thanks to my team mates again. They worked hard the whole day for me. This victory is very important for our team. It was a bloody long sprint,” the 33 year-old continued.
