 STAGE RACES 30 / 08 / 08

Deutschland Tour 2008 - 1

Deutschland-Tour 2008

The eight stage Deutschland Tour began on Friday, August 29, in Austria and ends on September 6 in Bremen.

Stage 1 Kitzbühel/Hochfügen (178km)
Milram's Brett Lancaster could not defend his leader's yellow jersey in the first stage of the Deutschland Tour.

Stomach problems were to force the Australian time trial specialist to leave the race on the 178 km from Kitzbühel up to Hochfügen.

The stage was marked by the 'most aggressive' rider of the day, Dominik Roels, who was brought back from a lone breakaway after about 150 km.

The stage win and yellow jersey went to Linus Gerdemann (Team Columbia) ahead of his teammate Thomas Lövkvist and Janez Brajkovic (Astana).

Vittorio Algeri, Milram Directeur Sportif, on the Queen Stage said - "Brett had such severe stomach problems, that he could hardly stay on his bike. We tried everything so that he could stay in the race, but in the end it just wasn't possible. Despite this bad news, we did very well today, especially thanks to Dominik Roels, and put our mark on the stage.“

Dominik Roels said - "When I was finally caught, I couldn't hold up any more and ended up fighting my way to the finish with Björn Schröder.“
