The Women's time trial offers newly crowned olympic road race champion Nicole Cooke another opportunity to win a second medal on August 13.

Cooke starts third from last and before Christine Thorburn (USA), and then world time trial and cyclo cross champion Hanka Kupfernagel (Germany). GB's Emma Pooley is the fifth rider off and it's not beyond her to make the podium, others able to do the same are Mirjam Melchers-Vanpoppel (Netherlands), and to be honest almost any of the riders going in the final ten. It will be close.

The course follows sections of the road race route and the women ride one lap - this should favour the climbers and those able to cope with the humid conditions and if dry, the pollution.

First rider off is at 11.30am China time and so add seven hours for the UK.
