Tour de France - report stage 19

Tour 2008

July 25 Stage 19 Roanne/Montluçon 165.5 km (Read Preview)

Sylvain Chavanel (Cofidis) out sprinted breakaway companion Jeremy Roy (FD Jeux) into Montluçon. Gerald Ciolek (Team Columbia) led in the main field over a minute down.

Stage 19 offered up a simple story to tell - Sylvain Chavanel (Cofidis) and Jeremy Roy (FD Jeux) went clear and gained over four minutes over a slumbering main field. The Milram and depleted Barloworld squads injected some urgency into the chase and despite the gap coming down it was too late.

Under the one kilometre to go flag Roy shadowed Chavanel, but when Roy jumped, Chavanel had read the move and rode clear to win.

The fight for third and green jersey points saw Ciloek shade Erik Zabel (Milram) on the line.

There was no change in the GC and now we have to await the race deciding time trial on Saturday. BRILLIANT!
