Tour de France - Rumour mill

Tour 2008

It would seem a rumour spread through the Tour circus that Police had attended the hotel of the Silence Lotto squad of race leader Cadel Evans last night. News of a potential raid had many excited, but sadly for the headline writers the only headline they might have got from it is, "Cops have drink with team".

Silence Lotto in a statement say that all was very innocent -

Team DS Marc Sergeant writes - "I am informed of a rumor by the German news chains that our hotel was visited by the order forces!

For my party I saw nothing, installed comfortably around a beer with the directors and some press friends."

The team also say at the hotel were members of the Police who were also guests.

"Therefore I confirm that we effectively had the police visit to our hotel and we passed an excellent evening which you will be able to confirm with the three journalists of the Gazet van Antwerpen who were on the spot and present."

Needless to say the team are a bit miffed at the German press.
